Mining Technician-Electrician

The essential function of this job is to perform maintenance on underground mining machinery such as ram car, roof bolter, and continuous mining machines as well as mechanical equipment such as engines, motors, hydraulic components, and conveyor systems using hand tools, pneumatic tools, power tools, and measuring and testing instruments.  The essential function of this job is broken down into the following tasks:

• Repairs or replaces damaged parts of mine machinery/equipment: Welds, straightens, bolts, rivets, and refits parts, such as axles, wheels, bodies, and couplings, using hoists, jacks, hand tools, power tools, and machine shop equipment.  Re-assemble devices following repair. 
• Examines parts and/or power cables for defects, such as breakage or excessive wear.

Principle Responsibilities:

• Demonstrate ability to correctly don and wear MSHA approved Self-Contained Self-Rescue apparatus
• Perform duties related to mining deemed Heavy Physical Demand (Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects)
• Safetly operate and/or perform assigned equipment and job duties
• Ability to ambulate (walk unassisted) 6000 feet over varied surfaces in 45 minutes or less (1.5 mph)
• Have the ability to recognize, using any available MSHA approved detection devices, any hazardous conditions which normally occur in underground mining.
• Ability to learn and perform other duties related to underground mining or surface operations.
